I once heard a statistic about the clothes we have. We wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. Very true for me too.

I once read a great suggestion for closet organization:
Hang all your clothes with the hook facing backwards (does that make sense? so the open part of the hook faces out). In one year, everything that isn't turned to the front should be donated, recycled, consigned, fed to the goats, whatever you want. I did this two years ago, and shockingly got rid of over 70% of my clothes. Some due to not fitting anymore (gulp) and some due to "what the hell was i thinking when I purchased this". Of course I have piled on more clothes because my brain didn't grasp the whole 'clean closet is a happy closet' thought process, but it is almost time to execute the clean out again, and I bet another 25% gets the boot this time.

On another note, I am seriously considering your get rid of stuff sunday methodology, but I am thinking about once a month.

Cheers!

That is a good idea!! I do have a small pile going for seriously old stuff that doesn't fit or I don't like. We do have a Salvation Army that has drop boxes in the back that you can take bags to. A Goodwill just opened up, too, but I don't know how they do drop offs. A little at a time might just keep me from getting overwhelmed, too. Shopping for clothes does that to me.

Did you see your YarnPig yarn in my stash? :) I do wish you'd dye some more...oh wait, I said I wouldn't buy any more for 2010. :(

How is Gussy? I am thinking of him especially and hoping he is doing better.

I think you should ditch the clothes that don't fit. Seriously? Even if you get down to a size 4 again will they be clothes that you want to wear? Will they be too young? Too out of style? Too out of your tastes by that point? Keep the clothes that do fit and start buying a piece or two at a time. Get rid of an old shirt for each new shirt you buy, or a pair of pants for each pair you buy, or etc... That way you can slowly revamp your wardrobe without a HUGE expense at a single time and get rid of the stuff that you really don't like.

DISCLAIMER: This method works especially well here for donating clothes because many grocery stores have goodwill (or other charity) clothing boxes in their parking lots so you can just drive up and toss a piece of clothing in one at a time if you wanted. I'm not sure how well it would work there if you don't have something like that. You might just have to toss if you can't give them away in small batches.

I think you should get rid of what doesn't fit. Its just depressing and the fact of life is that we will gain some weight (its healthy!!) as we get older. You should come over to Encore and we'll get you some nice new(ish) stuff. One's appearance shouldn't be overlooked. I know I feel better when my clothes fit and look good and it'll help you feel better, I hope. :)
