Check, check and check!

It took about 3 hours, but I finally  got the shop pictures edited (until such time as they can be re-photographed).  I have been meaning to do this so it feels great!  And why is this important, you ask?  Because I am running an ad in ravelry for the month of June!  Whoo hoo!

I also decided to tackle the sock tonight.

Enough of the ribbing!  Let’s work on the heel flap!

Take that, sock!!!  I’ll show you who can KNIT around here!!!

When I got home from work tonight, there was a big b-b-q spot on the kitchen rug.  I then looked at the counter.  I saw a plate with one b-b-q porkchop.  (Can you tell where this is going?)  Craig had put 4 porkchops on a plate with b-b-q sauce and gone outside.  Archie managed to pilfer 3 of them.  3 raw porkchops.  I ate chicken for dinner.

Stitch Markers

New for the etsy shop:

These are another spin on flowers:  the green is a flower shaped glass bead…

Tulip glass in reds/blues…

Oh, the blues and greens…

I got a haircut.  As in SHORT.  And a dye job:  I now have dark brown hair.  Still getting used to it…and so is my family.  Lainie, who has never seen me in anything (that she can remember) other than long, blond hair, immediately said “I don’t like it” and “I don’t like it because I don’t like it”.  For a second there I thought:  should I glue it all back on?  But she’ll get used to it.  It’s hair, after all, and it’ll grow again!!!

Yarn Binge, Part 2

Posted in Knitting on May 23, 2008 by carolynswafford

Craig took Cole to the movies tonight, so it was safe to unearth the rest of my recent yarn buying binge and photograph.  My local knitting group put in an order to Webs and they were having a huge clearance sale.  This is what I bought:

Excuse me while I wipe my chin….I was drooling….

I bought 8 skeins of the lovely pumpkin color with no idea of what I’m going to do with it.  2 skeins of black for a scarf, and 2 skeins of that beautimous mulitcolored artyarns yarn.  I don’t know what I’m going to do with that, either.

SO WHO WANTS TO BE MY SPONSOR?  EVERY YARNAHOLIC NEEDS A SPONSOR.  Think:  constant reminders not to buy yarn…taking phone calls at 11:00 p.m. from a crazy person hell bent on buying some yarn from some independent dyer on etsy….talking me down from the ledge….

Yarn, Yarn, Yarn…

Posted in Knitting on May 22, 2008 by carolynswafford

I resolved to stash bust this year.  I was doing really well, too…until….

I became weak.  First, I did a trade with Anna, from StuckinIllinois, for the turtle sock bag (isn’t it cute?).  Then, I bought some recycled yarn from defaceReconstruct (both ladies are in my knitting group).  Then, I realized that my crafty buddy, Kristin of GreenPrairieFibers, was moving.   This Saturday.  So, it was my last chance to get yarn without shipping costs.  And so….here you go.  There’s sock yarn, worsted weight and chunky.  Recycled yarn (the buttery yellow) and all the rest has been hand dyed by Kristin.

“My name is Carolyn….and I’m a yarn-aholic”….

In my efforts to purge my guilt, I must admit there’s more.  But that’s for another post (and when my husband isn’t around).

My Tree

Posted in life and whatnot on May 17, 2008 by carolynswafford

Spring makes me so happy because everything is green and I don’t feel like hibernating.  It makes me happier to look out the window when I’m eating and see this:

This is our willow tree.  When Craig planted it, I was hesitant because it is a willow tree and they have a tendency to spread.  But so far he’s kept it trimmed back and assures me the roots won’t grow into the walls of our basement.  It is peaceful to look out and see the branches waving in the wind and see all this green.

These are the simple things of life that I appreciate.  Hokey, huh?

Knitting Update

Posted in Knitting on May 15, 2008 by carolynswafford

I’ve been promising for awhile to post some pictures of the current projects I’m working on.  I’m finally getting around to it!

This is going to be the Big Sack Sweater from Stitch ‘n Bitch.  I am knitting it along with another girl at my local SnB group.  I read many reviews on ravelry about this sweater and it confirmed my suspicion that the sweater is too short.  I plan to lengthen it.  I’m knitting on a size 10 1/2 needle, so it should go quickly.  The color looks sort of pink, but it’s more of a reddish color.  Kraemer “Mauch Chunky” in Apple.

The damn sock.  I started this back in January or February and I’m still not even to the heel.  I’ve been told it’s because I’m ribbing all of the top part.  It looks tiny to me, so I keep putting it on my hand and seeing how far it stretches out.  And then I have to pick up stitches that come off one of the dpn’s.

I posted a picture of the Swampy Scarf for you before, and I’m sure that left an indelible imprint on your memory.  Never fear, it won’t crawl into your bed at night….it’s too busy crawling into mine.

Oh, the goodies in my mailbox!

Posted in Knitting on May 15, 2008 by carolynswafford

I had goodies in my mailbox today!  Thank you, Mr. Postman!  It balanced out getting the 2 visa bills and Direct TV bill nicely!

In the foreground is some yarn I bought from Bea Binney, off of Etsy.  It’s sock yarn, and despite my current existence with a certain sock project, I am willing to give it another go (that is, if I ever finish the first two socks).  I also bought 2 sock bags from her.  I don’t know how I cut off the second one, but I did.  But look at those dogs!  Very cheerful.  Bea…I’m afraid that I did not get Archie on there, but that’s okay!!!  There’s at least one bulldog so that is all good.  :)

The second item I got in the mail – well, I received it yesterday – were these cool magazines from my friend, Jen a/k/a Superfay or “Fun Is In Style” on etsy:

Vintage knitting magazines!

Oh, the 70’s goodness!  This was my childhood!  I especially remember the orange acrylic cardigan sweater that I wore all during 2nd grade.  There are some cool projects in here + some classic photos:

DUDE, love the ’stache.  Goes great with your aran sweater!

Oh, don’t you just love this vest on the girl?  I want to knit this for Lainie!

Can I be a part of the cool sweater group?

I would knit any of these three cardigans and love them.  However, I probably would not wear them with the big silver anchor necklace.

I have more photos from one of the other magazines to post, but I will do that another day.  Jen, thank you so very much!  I just love the magazines.

Grumpy Thursday Night

Posted in life and whatnot on May 15, 2008 by carolynswafford

I’m grumpy.  Why is this?

I wanted to go out to eat, but stayed home and served my kids this:

There was, however, a special treat for the kids for after dinner:

Those, my friends, are the new Indiana Jones m&m’s!  They come in the coolest colors – red, soft orange, white and black.  With cool skulls and such.  I ate mine at work today.  And for my sister, Susan….they were fresh as could be!  Yum.

I have a helper…
