Posted in Uncategorized on April 26, 2008 by carolynswafford

Still under construction – but coming along nicely!  Yay!
Check it out here!

(Special super I-owe-you thanks go out to my crafty buddy, Kristin, for the immeasurable amount of help she’s given me this afternoon – Kristin, I’m sorry your butt went numb sitting for so long at the computer!)

The stitch markers keep coming!  Etsy has proven to be dangerous territory.  There are a lot of cool bead suppliers!

Czech glass in purples and gray/black

Shiny, red, white, silver

Big and bright for a bulky project

Lovely turquoise and yellow glass

“Little Flowers”

The shiny beads at the top have hints of blue that bring out the color of the bottom bead

Sock stitch markers

More sock stitch markers – glass, very cheerful!

It took forever – but I can call it done!  And it fits!!!!

Happy 8th Birthday, Cole!

Posted in life and whatnot on April 22, 2008 by carolynswafford

My oldest turned 8 yesterday.  We celebrated on Sunday with an “all boy” party and had family come towards the end to eat.  I made a ton of food and conned my younger brother-in-law into grilling the  hamburgers and hotdogs.  It was a beautiful, warm day.  I can’t believe my first baby is 8!!!

And the carnage afterward:

For Robyn – but I hope it doesn’t gross you out…

Robyn, of Knit and Purl Mama, emailed me asking what the heck a PB&H was (from my IOS picture).  That, my friends, is a peanut butter and honey sandwich.  My husband and mother-in-law brainwashed Cole into liking that better than the normal PB&J.  Robyn told me she was allergic to peanut butter for the longest time.  She can eat it now, but it grosses her out.  I said “that’s a shame”.  Because we buy the industrial size for our house:

80 oz.  (that’s 5 pounds!!!) of peanut butter goodness.  And we eat so much of it in our house I don’t even bother to buy name brand – just the largest size in whatever store brand is available.  It’s the definite “go to” food in the house.  I pretty much have a peanut butter sandwich at work for breakfast every day.

Go to Robyn’s site and check out her little boy, Sean.  Such a happy little cutie!

*Island of Shit.  My piles of stuff earned this nickname from my husband some time ago.

39….and holding.

Posted in Knitting, life and whatnot on April 15, 2008 by carolynswafford

So, yesterday I was at the corner sandwich shop and the girl behind the counter said:  “Can I help you, ma’am?”.  I began to say:  “Yes, I’d like the potato cheddar soup” and then abruptly stopped and said “Did you just call me “ma’am?”.  Of course she didn’t mean anything by it.  However, I told her I was a little sensitive because my 39th birthday was coming up.  And it came up today.

Yes, my birthday falls on tax day.  Working in a bank trust department means that tax season is our busiest time of the year, so it’s always hectic (plus it’s also scholarship season, but that’s another story).  I did get to take a bit of break from the office to pick up 7 antique guns from a customer’s house about 30 minutes west of the Bank, sign listing papers to sell the customer’s house and then to drive those guns to an antique appraiser in the suburbs.  It was 60 degrees and sunny, so a nice day for a drive.  But at the end of the day, I should have stuck to my guns (get it? ooh, bad joke) and just taken the day off.  I could have gotten some down time in and I would have enjoyed the day more.

Craig was coaching baseball tonight, so I took the kids to Pizza Hut for dinner so they could cash in their “Book It” coupons and we stopped at Schnuck’s for a cake and then went home to catch the season premiere of “Deadliest Catch”.  (Yes, I am a fan.)  And that’s the birthday for another year.

My diet has gone all to hell – today I had 3 Dr. Pepper’s and 1 Coke.  Not to mention a grilled ham and cheese on rye from Culver’s for lunch and greasy Pizza Hut for dinner.  Not to mention popcorn and cake after dinner.  Blech.

Lame knitting update:  I am done seaming the sweater!  I only have to knit the neck and attach the buttons.  I was too tired to knit tonight.  Maybe tomorrow.

More stitch markers

I am in the middle of seaming Lainie’s cardigan but have hit a snag with the raglan sleeves — they look sloppy.  So, I’m heading down to the yarn store to see if Jess can help me pull it out and start over.  I am not a big fan of seaming.

In the meantime, here are some pictures of stitch markers that I made this week:

Love the browns and greens!

Tiny swavorski crystals at the top of these.

Love the colors in this set.

Shiny shiny tan and pink.

Puffy hearts for a bulky project.

Something always draws me to orange.

You can’t see it, but the clear crystals actually are shiny.  I like to call this one “40 Love” because they remind me of a the colors of a crisp tennis outfit.

Colorful.

I hope to post a picture of a F.O. before the weekend is over!  Hope everyone is having a great Saturday!!!

Quick knitting update…

Posted in Knitting on April 8, 2008 by carolynswafford

It’s 11:12 p.m. (late) but I just had to shriek into cyberspace that I only have 24 rows left to knit on the second sleeve of Lainie’s cardigan!  AND THEN I CAN BEGIN SEWING IT TOGETHER AND FINISH THE NECK!  HOORAY!!!!

Craig took Cole up to Milwaukee to see the Reds play the Brewers, so it was just me and Lainie tonight.  (speaking of which, they’re not home yet.  Not so great for an almost 8 year old to be out this late on a school night!  Let’s hope this is some major father/son bonding time, because “I highly disapprove” – but who listens to Mom? Oh wait, I’ve asked that question before)  Lainie painted with watercolors at the kitchen table and I made some more stitch markers.  A nice, relaxing night!

My $1.00 (plus tax) Vintage Find

Posted in Knitting on April 6, 2008 by carolynswafford

Kristin and I took advantage of the nice day (and Craig being home) to take Archie for a walk across town to visit Trixie at the Hardware Store.  Kristin got a sponge for making paper and I got some wire to make my own stitch marker posts!  Then, we went to an “upscale” thrift store downtown and I found this knitting booklet!  Ooh, I just drooled over these sweaters….pure 60’s, baby!  Notice the 3/4 length sleeve?  The well-coiffed happy couples?  The cabling on the cowl neck?  Oh, this is definitely going into my “to knit someday” pile!

On the stitch marker front:  I continue to make more markers and purchase more beads.  I even bought a tackle box from Farm and Fleet to hold my growing collection of beads.  The obsession continues!

On the knitting front:  almost no progress due to the above.  I did, however, force myself to sit down last night and knit on the second sleeve of Lainie’s cardigan.  I’m on the home stretch and….must…finish!
