Thursday Night, 12:11 a.m.
After I got the kids to bed tonight, I sat under a blanket on the couch, carb loaded and knitted. It’s a brisk 5 degrees outside with a strong wind. All it makes me want to do is eat and hibernate.
I hit a small snag in the sock (meaning I made a mistake and I will have to look at it when I am not so tired to see if I can fix it) so I started a hat with stash yarn. Do you ever have one of those knitting sessions where you’re not entirely satisfied with what you’re working on? I’m getting that feeling. Let’s hope I get more enthusiastic as I get further along. It certainly is nice to knit with a size 8 needle after size 1 sock needles! Here’s a badly-lit shot for you:
I have been wrestling as to what to put on a “to do” project list for 2008. I really want a project list to use as a guide so I don’t get to next Christmas and say “oh, I wish I’d made that”. But I can’t quite pin down why I can’t decide what to do. I certainly have enough things in the stash- knitting, crosstitch and otherwise. There’s lots I want to do, too! Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it?

I usually don’t worry about Christmas. Knitted/Sewn gifts go over well with the women, but because I am in a warm climate the men aren’t that interested. So there are only 4 women besides me and only so many things I can knit for them. So usually someone gets something knitted and the others things that are sewn (or this year I store bought one! eee…my mom absolutely adored it and I couldn’t have made it so thats ok too). As far as making lists of things to do. No problem for me there. Have you seen my queue in Ravelry?

I would say to keep a journal. Write down everything you Want to do, see if there are any that you Need to do, and go from there. I just keep a running tally and whenever I’m feeling at a loss, I take a peak and start on what is most appealing. If nothing is striking my fancy, I start a new project…. unless I have a list of 10+, then I grin and bare it and work on something from the list.
Hope this helps!

ps – i have been making a point to have one christmas project in the list, I was way overwhelmed last christmas and that is just not going to happen again. I agree with Bea, sewing for all, knitting for one. Knitted projects take a long time to finish up. Sewing is pretty fast in comparison (depending on the project of course).

No craft project ever goes right past midnight! Take it from me. Things get weird at that time. : )

Hint–the best projects get done while watching “The Man with the 100 Pound Tumor.” Always wait until late at night so you can get inspired with shows such as this.

I think that the Discovery Channel is starting to show that again…fascinating! But here lately I’m watching “What Not to Wear” while knitting. I love the whole makeover thing, esp. if the person’s self-esteem changes as a result. Gotta love the self-improvement!
